About The Society of Wayward Writers

The Society of Wayward Writers is a writing group headquartered in New York City. While we specifically came into being on March 5, 2024, we are the latest incarnation of a long and storied writing community hosted in the five boroughs. We meet up in cafes, bars, public spaces, and all over the internet, expanding our reach beyond the city.

We’ve spent years writing a ridiculous number of words (many for the Word God), tons of wild characters, and countless novels along the way. Our story begins long ago, as we came together and set sail with one goal: to write a novel in a month.

We joined this group of intrepid travelers and sailed the seven seas with them, writing many novels, crashing beautiful nights while writing dangerously, enjoying way too many libations of all kinds, and conquering plot bunnies.

In 2024, we changed our name to The Society of Wayward Writers, but we will continue to brandish our pens and fight the good fight, writing Words for the Word God!

The Society of Wayward Writers is 100% run by volunteers. We are still working out our events throughout the year, but right now we have a fall challenge (Around the Novel in 90 Days) and a summer challenge (Raiders of the Lost Manuscript). Aside from that, we have a community open year-round, where people can share their writing journeys and support one another!
